About Downtown Hollister

Hollister Points of Interest

Hollister Points of Interest

Calaveras Fault & Hollister The town of Hollister has the dubious distinction of having been built directly on top of the Calaveras Fault. Downtown has numerous examples of offset caused by creep along the fault line.

San Benito County Free Library

Books of all aspects of California and local history – some rare and out-of-print – are housed at the San Benito County Library in the California/Local History section.

Marich Confectionery

If you have a sweet tooth, stop at the Marich Confectionary store for tasty treats and sign up for a tour.

Visiting the Past

The IOOF Cemetery in Hollister provides an interesting introduction to many of the town's prominent citizens including Thomas S. Hawkins, Sheriff Jeramiah Croxon, and Millard F. Hoyle Sr. Genealogists will find this website very helpful.

Muenzers Sporting Goods

Muenzer's Cyclery and Sports Center has been serving San Benito County since 1910. This family run business is a great place to visit for all your sporting goods needs, including an original "Hollister" tee shirt.

Oldest Ford Dealership in California

The oldest Ford Dealership in California, Tiffany Ford Motor Company celebrated it's 100th anniversary in 2010.

San Benito County Historical Society

Visit pharmacist George Wapple's home built in 1909, now the San Benito County Historical Society Museum.

John Steinbeck

Hollister is the original home of the Steinbeck family.  John Steinbeck's grandfather came to Hollister in the late 1870's, helping build a new community.

He and his wife, Almira, lived near this home on Monterey Street which was featured in the 1981 movie, East of Eden, based on the book which his grandson wrote in 1952.

Swank Farms

Swank Farms grows a variety of fruits and vegetables year around which they sell mainly through Farmers' Markets, restaurants, and their own produce stand.

They also feature a huge corn maze and pumpkin patch during Halloween which draws visitors from all over.
