The Hollister Downtown Association is made up of several sub-committees that work diligently to pursue the goals and mission of the association as well as ensure that the association runs smoothly.

Members of each committee are concerned and involved business people just like you!  Contact Brenda at info@downtownhollister.org if you are interested in participating on any one of these committees!  We'd love to have you!

Organization Committee

Updated 01/20/2010 - The Organization Committee is in full swing making calls and visiting perspective members of the HDA as well as recruiting members to participate at the Board level, focusing on restaurant and engineering backgrounds. The 2010 County Fair booth will be chaired by Jeri Hernandez from Serene Home - she had some great last-minute ideas last year. The Downtown Endowment balance is $9,897 - only $103 short of the $10,000 balance required to receive interest. Along these same lines, research into changing the status of the HDA from a 501(c)6 to a 501(c)3 has begun in earnest. The Committee has adopted the vision statement that was created at a workshop for the Downtown Strategy Plan, "Downtown Hollister is an economic, cultural, and social center that respects the past, present and future through its blending of people, places and possibilities."

Chair - Margaret (Peggy) Thorning, Attorney at Law

Current committee members: Jeri Hernandez, Sue Rocha (Wells Fargo Mortgage), Julie Rossi (Edward Jones Investments), Millard Strohn (Intero Real Estate Services), Brenda Weatherly (HDA), Kristin Winn (Winn Insurance)

Promotion Committee

Updated 01/20/2010 - The Committee discussed having a "Go Red" event in February of 2011 - a Committee will need to be formed and outreach to the American Heart Association and Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital is planned. The Downtown Club currently has 70 members with Sacred Heart Parish School, Muenzer's, Serene Home, and Drapoel/Teezerz continuing to sell cards on a regular basis. The new membership brochure is currently being printed and should be distributed by the end of February. Charming Chairs & Quilts (April 10th - April 24th), Farmers' Market (May 12th - Sep 29th), Movies Under the Stars (June 10th - July 29th), and Street Festival (July 17th) are all in production and volunteers are always needed.

Design Committee

Updated 01/20/2010 - The hanging planters and watering cart have been delivered and installation has begun. The baskets with plants will most likely be installed in early Spring to avoid frost damage. San Benito Engineering has submitted a Project Design Report proposal for San Benito Street to Hollister City Engineering staff with requested revisions. Garavaglia Architecture has submitted a draft of the Core Historic Structure Report for the Granada Theatre for review. Jason Guerra of Symmetry Design reported that there has been a staff change at CalTrans delaying the approval of Directional Signage for Historic Downtown Hollister along Highway 25. The proposed location for the sign is just south of Wright Road. The Committee is working on a plan to identify all of the street trees and pedestrian light poles downtown by a numerical system to ease communication between the City of Hollister and anyone that may want to report a problem. Bill Avera from the Hollister Redevelopment Agency shared preliminary renderings for the new fire station located in downtown and the Committee responded with mostly positive feedback. Proposed signage for the Wells Fargo Bank on the corner of Sixth and San Benito Streets was shared with the Committee and several recommendations were made to bring the signs into compliance with the current Sign Ordinance. Leadership San Benito County is working on their own sign, "Welcome to Hollister". Class member Barbara Scott asked the Committee for input on sign style and materials.

Chair - Gordon Machado (Rustic Turtle Embroidery Works)

Current committee members: Suzie Crump, Jason Guerra (Symmetry Design & Build), Anne Hall, Stephanie Hicks (SBC Arts Council), David Huboi (Huboi Architectural Services), Mary Paxton (City of Hollister Planning Department), Abraham Prado (City Planning), Sharlene Van Rooy (HDA), Brenda Weatherly (HDA)

Economic Restructuring Committee

Updated 01/20/2010 - Over the last two months the Committee has been reviewing the PBID process, working with Nancy Martin on the Economic Development brochure and monitoring the Gavilan Joint Community College campus location - still hoping for a downtown site to be selected. Construction on the new Courthouse is scheduled to begin in September of 2010 and completed in February of 2012. The Committee has received recommendations from Hollister Chief of Police, Jeff Miller, for Downtown parking enforcement and has started that review process. The Committee recommended to the Board that a letter be written from the HDA to the Hollister Redevelopment Agency in support of the YMCA's desire to be located at the old Leatherback site.

Chair - Jerry Muenzer (Muenzer's Cyclery & Sports Center)
