Taste of Historic
Downtown Hollister
The Downtown of any city has always
been the “heart and soul” of the community. I have heard people say
that they wish there were more restaurants downtown and I would like
to point out that we have many wonderful restaurants in the downtown
area that should be explored and enjoyed.
Let’s take a look at some of our
charming dining areas. Many are open seven days a week. Here are
some of my favorites…
Every morning there are people
milling around the Faultline Bagel
Shop. They have delicious coffee, warm bagels and many
flavors of cream cheese. Stop in and have a jalapeño bagel with cream
cheese...it is wonderful.
An all-American favorite,
A&W Family Restaurant has
great hamburgers, hot dogs, fries and much more. Be sure to try the
chili cheeseburger. They are famous!
The award winning
Main Street Bistro always
reminds me of a little restaurant in Italy. Megan and her staff do an
excellent job. Be sure to try the breakfast burrito in the morning.
It is the perfect mix of egg, cheese, spinach and salsa. Main Street
Bistro also serves a fabulous lunch not to be missed.
Right across the street is
Hard Times Café. The
Sunday Brunch is very unique and Terry cooks everything to order.
Hard Times Café is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Be
sure to try his tuna sandwich!
The
Elegant Touch
is another delicious stop on our tour. They have wonderful salads,
sandwiches, soup, and pizza…and did I mention the desserts. Don and
his staff have the best cheesecake in town. Stop in and take one home
to the family or office. It is sure to be a hit.
The
Vault
is noted for its large menu and excellent appetizers. The Cobb salad
is one of my favorite items on the menu. You won’t leave hungry.
Also, The Vault has a full service bar and makes an excellent
cosmopolitan. Try one this weekend!
A new addition to downtown is
Roxy’s Lil’ Café (formerly
Happy Dogs). The restaurant is a wonderful stop for lunch. Make sure
to try a chicken wrap. They are healthy and delicious.
We are lucky to have several good
Mexican restaurants in Hollister and one of them is in the heart of
our downtown. Las Palmas
has a big menu with lots of yummy choices. On Sunday the menudo is a
must…spicy!
If you desire a lunch or dinner with
“piazzas” try Paines.
Paines is a well established restaurant with new owner John Nolan and
Chef Rob Stevens. Try their Crab Louie salad for lunch or attend a
wine dinner. You won’t be disappointed!
All the restaurants I have mentioned
are family friendly and priced comparable to restaurants in the
surrounding areas. I have only mentioned a few of over 20 restaurants
in our downtown area. Please dine in friendly downtown Hollister, and
contribute to the heart and soul of our community.
